Greenies Go on the Road to Win Fourth Straight

Simpkins
A.J. Simpkins '22 and Christ School varsity football won Friday night at High Point Christian Academy, 43-21.

Even with a depleted roster, Christ School varsity football had more than enough Friday at High Point Christian Academy.

A.J. Simpkins ’22 completed 10 of his 16 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns as the Greenies spoiled the Cougars’ Senior Night, 43-21.

Zack Myers ’24 was on of the receiving end of two touchdowns (44 and 53 yards). Bryce Sain ’22 caught the third (44 yards), juking several defenders on this way to the end zone for Christ School’s first points at the 2:23 mark of the opening quarter. Cade Mintz ’21 added two more rushing touchdowns (7 and 22 yards) to his total for the season, and finally Tray Mauney ’23 broke an 80-yard quarterback keeper with 5:04 left in the game.

Christ School only had 29 healthy players available for Friday. Not only that, Painter Richards-Baker ’21 left the game with an ankle injury, which meant that the Greenies were down to their third-string kicker. Jakob Iwanek ’24 came through by making two extra points. The defense held High Point Christian (2-3) to only seven points in the first three quarters and Jake Regan ’22 made his first interception of the year just before halftime.

Christ School improves its record to 4-2 and will carry a four-game winning streak into next week’s start to the NCISAA state playoffs. Pairings should be announced sometime this weekend.
