NEW ORLEANS – The Big Easy was anything but for Christ School varsity basketball.

The Greenies (26-4) were in jeopardy of having all their recent momentum stunted by a Winter Break trip, until turning it on in the fourth quarter Saturday.

Jamari Briggs ’24 had 10 of his 15 points over the final eight minutes and Christ School outscored Jesuit (La.), 20-10, to win by a 58-53 score.

Emanuel Richards '23 matched Jamari with 15 points. Anthony Robinson ’23 allowed the Greenies to control the boards with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Keenan Wilkins ’24 added eight points, Lleyton Thomas-Johnson ’24 had seven, and Bryson Cokley ’24 had one.

Jesuit coach Chris Jennings has been at the New Orleans school for more than 30 years, and the Blue Jays fought hard on their home court. They led by as many as six points in the second half and were up 43-38 at the end of the third quarter.

A rebound and outlet pass by Emanuel led to a breakaway dunk by Jamari with 5:15 to go in the game. That made the score 46-44 and Christ School never trailed again.

The Greenies went 1-1 in New Orleans, with a 64-53 loss Friday at Isidore Newman (La.). They play next Wednesday at home, needing a win over Carolina Day to grab a piece of the Carolinas Athletic Association championship. Game times for Wednesday are 4:30 for the JV and 6 p.m. for the varsity.
