Jack Lee '21 scored the winning goal for Christ School on Wednesday at Carolina Day.

Every single field player got into the game Wednesday, a point of pride for Christ School soccer coach Guy Campbell ’00.

The Greenies needed a collective effort and then some to win their Carolinas Athletic Association opener. Goals from Adam Keever ’20 and Jack Lee ’21 in the final 5 minutes and 38 seconds allowed Christ School to come from behind for a 3-2 win at Carolina Day.

Jack’s first goal of the season was the difference. The junior was able to put his right foot on a cross from Ethan Rose ‘23, punching it home with just 1:22 to play. Adam’s goal came at the 74:22 mark, and at the time, had tied the game at 2-2. Connor Hall ’20 scored a goal and had an assist. Fox Smith ‘21 added an assist.

Michael Mahoney ‘20 made five saves and was at his best in the game’s waning moments as Carolina Day tried to force overtime. The Wildcats (1-1-0, 0-1-0) played the final 11 minutes a man down due to a red card.

Coach Campbell was impressed with his opponent’s improvement from 2018, as well as the way the Greenies (3-0-0, 1-0-0) responded to trailing for the first time this season. Playing from behind while staying composed has been something emphasized by the coaching staff.

The next game for Christ School is Saturday at home against defending NCISAA 4-A champion High Point Wesleyan (3-3-0). Kickoff is 1 p.m., and the game will be streamed live by the Christ School Broadcast Network.
