Hal Brewster ’05 had always been a fan of the horror fiction genre.

The pandemic turned out to be the perfect excuse to finally sit down and write his first novel.

“The Gauntlet” is available for purchase in either physical or electronic formats at www.thegauntletnovel.com.

Hal said his literary inspiration can be traced back to the English Department at Christ School. His 186-page book is described by the author as follows:

On the outside, Jared Jones seems like a normal and charming young man, well-known in the entire county. After studying from an Ivy League school and working in Silicon Valley, Jared leaves a possible bright future to go and reopen his father’s zoo. The same zoo that brought a lot of bloodshed and pain to the county several years ago.

Jared, with his pet Jaguar, seeks to reopen the zoo to provide entertainment to the people. But his main goal is to seek revenge on the people who wronged him and bring them to justice.

Hal lives and works in his hometown of New Orleans.
