The Christ School cross country team.

If the old saying “home sweet home” is true, then this week couldn’t be any sweeter for Christ School fall sports.

Soccer, cross country, and football are all scheduled to host competitions with big stakes in the coming days.

First up is soccer, which begins the NCISAA 4-A state playoffs with a first-round game against visiting Charlotte Providence Day on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The Greenies (9-8) defeated the Chargers (7-8) by a 1-0 score Sept. 10 in Charlotte, thanks to an overtime goal scored by Jonathan Chen ‘23 and assisted by George Robbins ’24. Statistical leaders for the team are Ethan Rose ’24 (seven goals, two assists), Truett Compton ’25 (six goals, seven assists), Carter Compton ’24 (four goals, three assists), and Brendan Regan ’24 (four goals, one assist).

Ben Yang '24 has logged the most time at goalkeeper with 79 saves in 16 games.

soccer

Cross country is undefeated in the Carolinas Athletic Association and has raced its home course multiple times ahead of Wednesday’s conference meet. The CAA girls race begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 5:15.

The Greenies won last week’s meet at Asheville School with a perfect score (15), getting top-10 finishes from Rocky Hansen ’24 (first place, 17:36.24), Dawson Reeves ’24 (second, 17:37.00), Jackson Burch ’23 (third, 17:40.79), Jack Cross ’22 (fourth, 17:53.91), Kahzi Sealey ‘23 (fifth, 18:33.75), and Eyob Gill ’24 (sixth, 18:48.13).

football

Finally, football hosts four-time defending state champion Charlotte Christian on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Christ School (2-4) scored on its very first play from scrimmage, and then never let up in last Friday’s 45-0 win at Charlotte Country Day. Bryce Sain ’22 eclipsed the 5,000-yard mark in career rushing earlier this year and ran for three touchdowns last Friday. A.J. Simpkins’ 22 passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third.
