Jack Cross '22 Wins Asheville Half Marathon

Cross

Time flies when you run as fast as Jack Cross ’22.

Less than a month after graduating from Christ School, Jack won Sunday morning's River Arts District Half Marathon in Asheville as a 17-year-old with a course-record time (1 hour, 14 minutes, and 16 seconds).

Jack maintained an average pace of 5:40 per mile, besting the runner-up by just over 11 minutes. The half marathon (13.1 miles) began in the heart of downtown Asheville before winding through the adjoining River Arts District. Overall, there were 502 runners in the race.

Jack is from Asheville and plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill.

His senior year of running for Christ School was his best yet.

Jack placed 11th in October’s NCISAA 4-A cross country meet, running 16:27.90 for the 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) race. He and the Greenies won the team trophy for the first time in school history.

Jack also came on strong this spring for Christ School’s state runner-up track team. He became a first-time individual conference champion at the Carolinas Athletic Association Meet, winning the 3,200-meter run (9:54.65).
