Day Student Proctor and fifth-year senior Jacob Wilde ’24 had the best kind of Blue Christmas.
Jacob verbally committed Monday to play baseball for Brevard College, whose predominant color is blue.
Jacob is a right-handed pitcher from Mills River, N.C., who was 1-0 with a save for the Carolinas Athletic Association co-champion Greenies (16-5) last season. He notably closed out a 16-15 win at CAA co-champion Rabun Gap (Ga.). His earned run average was 3.15 to go along with nine strikeouts in seven appearances.
Jacob is the 14th senior from the Class of 2024 to make a college sports commitment and the fourth from the baseball program along with Reese Ballard '24 (Asbury), Charlie Collins '24 (Western Carolina), and Jake Gravley '24 (Asbury).
Outside of sports, Jacob belongs to the National Honor Society and is a past winner of the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
His academic advisor, James Uhler, had the highest praise for Jacob in introducing him for his Senior Speech back in September.
“There are the steady boys who build strong relationships with their Greenie brothers, who work through the challenges in their classes and on the fields, who embrace all the little aspects of attending Christ School, and all of this often goes unnoticed because you remain steadfast,” Mr. Uhler said of Jacob.
“You’ve built your own happiness, you took your bumps along the way, laughed them off, and kept moving forward. Fellas, these are the day-to-day skills that you embrace to live a satisfactory and cheerful life.”
