Players the caliber of Jamari Briggs ’24 can often be their own harshest critics.
The 6-foot-5 wing from Hartsville, S.C., was immediately going over things he could have done better in Friday night’s 69-58 home win over Legacy Early College (S.C.). His mood lightened up considerably when asked about being a Division I recruit.
Jamari announced on his social media prior to Friday’s game that he is “1,000%” committed to USC Upstate basketball.
“It’s close to home. It felt like the coaches loved me and felt like family there,” Jamari said.
“Going into the season committed is a big relief. Now I don’t have to worry about it and I can just play.”
Jamari was an All-Carolinas Athletic Association and All-Western North Carolina player on last season’s state championship team, averaging 12.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. He is again in the starting lineup and contributed eight points to Friday’s win for the undefeated Greenies (2-0).
“He’s worked really, really hard for this and this kind of opportunity is going to be generational for him,” Christ School head coach Josh Coley said.
“I couldn’t be more proud or thankful to be part of his journey. He’s his own man. His parents have done a phenomenal job and I’m just thankful to be a part of it.”
USC Upstate plays in the Big South Conference and the campus in Spartanburg, S.C., is about 160 miles from Jamari’s hometown. Jamari is the 10th senior from Christ School's Class of 2024 to make a college sports commitment.
