Leadership can be an amorphous concept, but the faculty know the school's second pillar when they see it.
January's Student and Residential Life Awards were announced Friday in assembly by Dean of Students Drew Hyche '94, Dean of Campus Life/Special Assistant to the Head of School Benjie Colberg, and Assistant Dean of Students Wesley Shelmire.
The comments in quotations are from the faculty, which nominate the boys anonymously.
STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
Jaylen Daniels '25
"This student has been an exemplary Greenie and Senior Leader. He has committed himself to his role in the Black Student Union. He demonstrates remarkable composure and poise behind the scenes in order to create a stronger Greenie brotherhood at Christ School. He habitually challenges himself to grow, to become a more powerful individual, and to serve the Christ School community."
Jackson Cancel '26
"This young man, also committed to his role in the Black Student Union, is unfailingly polite, always ready to help. He reaches out in many ways, in order to be far more impactful, beyond the bounds of the school itself. He is constantly supportive of those around him and willing to listen to others’ views and opinions with an open mind. At the same time, he is willing to challenge the status quo if he believes it is not helpful and he is equally willing to challenge any ideas which seem to be wrong, in order to make things right."
Henry Cronlund '27
"This student earns multiple merits for helping others. He has made it a goal to go on a service project each weekend. He’s a great part of our community, recognizing when to lend a helping hand in multiple ways. That was on display with the Christmas show going above and beyond to help with the play. He’s extremely kind and constantly shows a great example of brotherhood."
ROOMMATES OF THE MONTH
Benjamin Ayisah-Quaye '28 and Savva Lagutin '28
"Two absolute legends. These two take care of our three dorm pillars every day: taking care of themselves, taking care of their space, and most importantly, taking care of each other. They're engaged, kind, and are a sincere part of making our dorm culture (in Cuningham House) what it is."
SENIOR LEADER OF THE MONTH
Brandon Brown-Ihsane '25
"I cannot emphasize enough how important and different this senior leader is because he may be the best we have had in Harris House, which includes some really great Prefects, that truly understands what it means to be proactive versus reactive. He is always anticipating issues, communicating them with us, and never has to be asked to do anything. All with a walking boot on!"
JOB PROCTOR OF THE MONTH
Cash Walker ‘27
“Cash Walker has been Johnny on the spot all the time. He is always willing to help in any way possible. This includes taking out trash almost every time."
