Thank you to Chaplain Peter Hartwig for this summary of Christ School’s guest for Spiritual Emphasis Week, which runs Feb. 24-28.
Christ School’s first Spiritual Emphasis Week speaker will be Joshua Symonette. He’s a husband, a father of four, a resident of Baltimore. He works as a professional coach, a speaker, and a pastor.
Joshua played College Football at Tennessee Technical University. He holds the school record for the longest interception return – 98 yards. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in English-Journalism. After college, he was an NFL safety for Washington, and then the Miami Dolphins. He ended his athletic career with the Berlin Thunder. He still speaks in a wide variety of settings including NFL team chapels all over the country.
Joshua went on to complete a Master of Arts at Regent University School of Divinity. He served as a campus pastor at National Community Church for seven years, where he overlapped with Mr. Hartwig.
In 2020, Joshua moved to Baltimore to found Hopeville Church, where he is still the lead pastor.
Joshua has a passion for innovative leadership – both within and outside of the church. He cares deeply about his city and wants to see the church lead the way in bringing hope to places of brokenness.
Joshua will be with us on campus and in chapel from February 24-28 preaching on the theme of trust. He will be doing a handful of events throughout the week with various groups of students. If you want to meet with him to talk about faith, life, or professional football – you can set up a time.
