The inaugural “Asheville’s Got Talent” debuted on Saturday night to a packed house at the Diana Wortham Theatre. Christ School initiated the talent show showcasing the performing arts between Asheville School, Carolina Day School, and Christ School. Kahzi Sealey ’23 took the stage last, receiving a standing ovation and taking home the first-place trophy for his original rap, “A Lifetime.”

But for Kahzi and six other Greenies, the evening was less about competition and more about the celebration of artistry and expression. There were 11 student performances in all, four by Christ School students. The showcase was led by Christ School’s Director of Student Engagement/Summer Programs, Jim Goodrum, and the emcee for the night was Dr. Spenser Simrill, who teaches in the English Department.

Kahzi was the final act of the night, which also included the first public performance by a Christ School student band named Uncontrolled Perfection. The four-piece of Noah Graham ’23 (vocals), Colin Breiter ’25 (drums), Luke Jennings ’24 (bass), and Luke Parrish ’24 (guitar) played a cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ song, “Californication.”

Later in the evening, Leighton Blount ’24 sang his original song “Growing Old,” with Luke Parrish on backing guitar before Evan Reich ’26 sat down at the piano to play an improvised number.

Parents, classmates, and members of the faculty were in attendance to support the boys on a night that will long be remembered and an event that is expected to become an annual tradition for the schools.
