NASSAU, Bahamas - Six hundred athletes from 28 countries descended on the Carribean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) Games with aspirations of a medal.
Kahzi Sealey ’23 is bringing home not one, but two.
The Christ School senior won silver for the second time in three days Monday night, placing second in the men’s 20 and under 5,000-meter run (15 minutes, 37.56 seconds).
Kahzi and his countryman from Bermuda, Jake Brislane (third place, 15:45.84), pushed one another as they tried to chase down Tafari Waldron (first, 15:33.38) from Trinidad and Tobago.
Five thousand meters on the track is 12 and a half laps and considerably longer than the 3,200 (eight laps) that is the limit for most high school meets. Few Greenies have ever run the 5,000 during their track career at Christ School and none have done it better than Kahzi did Monday. The previous record (16:20.37) was run last year by Jack Cross ’22.
Easter Break for Christ School extended from Friday to Monday and the CARIFTA Games occupied all of Kahzi’s time away. He was the second-place runner in Saturday’s 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:06.34.
The CARIFTA Games are the world’s largest junior track meet and this was their 50th year. Monday’s events were the conclusion to the four-day event.
