Lacrosse Gets Elusive Win at Cannon School

CONCORD – Six seconds.

At the height of a scoring run that irrevocably turned Tuesday's game, it took all of six seconds for Christ School varsity lacrosse to get the ball from the faceoff circle to Cannon School’s goal.

Five unanswered goals, including the quick-hitter from Carter Sherwood ’25 to Nate Wilberding ’25, covered the third and the fourth quarters of a huge 7-6 road win over the three-time defending NCISAA Division I state champion Cougars.

Christ School players stormed the field with emotion pent-up from their first win in the series since 2021.

Parker Abernethy ‘28 led the team with two goals. Nate, Liam Burnett ‘28, Caden Paradine ‘25, Xander Ring ‘25, and Bowen Scheurer ‘27 added one each. Cannon School (1-2) did not go down without a fight and had 41.5 seconds to try and tie the game, but Carter won the final faceoff and the Greenies (1-1) were able to run out the clock. As the momentum changed, senior Noah Wood '25 held the Cougars to one goal in both the second and then third quarters.

Christ School travels to Charlotte Latin for its next game, Thursday at 6 p.m.
