CHARLOTTE - Jack Shimer ’23 and his Christ School teammates were playing for something bigger than themselves Saturday.

Their intensity was off the charts and the offense wasn't far behind.

The Greenies have really begun to click with 49 goals in their last three games, bookended by a 20-goal outburst March 29 at Dorman (S.C.) and Saturday afternoon’s 15-2 demolishing of Cary Green Level.

For the second time in this three-game stretch, Christ School varsity lacrosse (5-3) had three different players attain a hat trick – Jack (four goals), Parker Beiland ’24 (three), and Nate Wilberding ’25 (three). The game with Green Level (11-2) was part of the annual Champions Challenge showcase, which benefits the Wounded Warrior Project. The Greenies wore special camouflage jerseys and played inside American Legion Memorial Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 17,000.

“(Saturday) was an outstanding experience and a great opportunity to pay tribute to our veterans,” Jack said.

“We were ready. Overall, it just feels like we’re getting used to playing together and the chemistry is building. I really think this could be a special season.”

Jack reckons he was early in his middle school career the last time he scored four times in one game. He had three goals by halftime and the Greenies were in command, 11-1.  The work of Carter Sherwood ’25 in the faceoff circle allowed Christ School to dominate possession and Lucas Little ’24 was solid as usual in goal.

Jack is one of nine seniors for the Greenies. Two others added goals on Saturday – Aiden Schook ’23 and Bill Young ’23. Caden Paradine ’25, Carter Martin ’25, and Kaden Brown ’24 rounded out the goal-scorers for the Greenies, whose next game is Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Asheville School.
