Patience can be a tricky proposition.
Coach Guy Campbell ’00 kept telling his soccer players to be patient Thursday. That they had plenty of time to turn around their season and home opener versus Charlotte Providence Day.
The Greenies proved him right and only needed 10 minutes, 27 seconds to do it.
Wyatt Haddock ‘27 and Truett Compton '25 assisted late second-half goals from Wells Edwards ’25 (69:33) and Oliver King ‘28 (74:15) to complete a 2-1 comeback win.
Oliver’s game-winner came off a free kick taken by Costa Barlas ‘26 after Wells was roughed up just outside the box with 6:20 remaining. Felix Huebner '26 was spectacular throughout, stopping shots that would have gotten past lesser keepers, including a couple breakaways by the Chargers (0-2-0).
The Greenies (1-0-0) lost 3-1 at Providence Day last year in the regular season only to turn around and win there, 3-2, in the second round of the NCISAA 4-A state playoffs. Christ School graduated a dozen seniors off that team which ended up reaching the state quarterfinals for the first time since 2017.
The next games for the varsity and JV teams across town Tuesday at A.C. Reynolds.
