Nostalgia was not the motivating factor for Doug Colvard ’06. Nor was Wednesday morning’s visit to campus part of a promotional tour for his new book, “Pivot Points: Living a Purpose Oriented Life.”
Rather, Doug told students that his talk in Pingree Auditorium was about paying it forward as a Greenie.
“Why am I here? I’m you guys, just 15-20 years in the future. I learned a thing or two about life and figured I would share with you,” Doug said.
“Christ School was a pivot point for me, my time here drastically changed the direction of my life. I truly believe in the values that Christ School instills in each of us. It’s my duty to support it. It’s my duty to support all of you.”
Doug is a venture finance lawyer turned best-selling author. Upon its release in digital form, Pivot Points shot up to No. 2 on Amazon in the category of New Releases in Biographies of Lawyers & Judges. It is presently available for purchase in either Kindle or paperback format at this link.
Doug said he woke up at 4 a.m. for ninth months straight to work on the book because the morning is when he does his best writing. Pivot Points is described as a book that will help readers learn to find internal validation, their authentic self, and embark on a journey toward growth, self-discovery, fulfillment, and purpose.
Along with sharing anecdotes about his time here as a Headmaster Scholar, Doug read from Pivot Points on Wednesday and fielded questions from the boys afterwards.
“Why write a book? Because it’s fun and life is too short to not do something that is fun,” Doug said.
“We all live busy lives, and trust me, it only gets busier as you get older.”
Former Dean of Academics and History Department Chair Erich Cluxton was one of Doug’s biggest mentors at Christ School. He was able to attend Wednesday’s talk along with his wife, Linda, who formerly headed up the Communications Department.
