Breaking full-court pressure is a thankless skill that every young basketball player should learn. Coach Drew Hyche ‘94 made sure his Little Greenies were knowledgeable after their first loss of the season.
Christ School not only got the ball up the floor without incident on most of its possessions Wednesday. The Little Greenies found an offensive flow from the second quarter on, getting retribution with a 33-23 home win over the Carolina Day JV team.
Matthew Hammel ’23 was the top scorer with eight points, followed by Dawson Reeves ’24 (seven points), John Watson Simon ’24 (six points), Eyob Gill ’24 (five points), Quinn Roberts ’24 (four points), and James Mennell ’24 (three points).
The Little Greenies (6-1) led 13-9 at halftime after Dawson heaved a long 3-pointer with two hands. The shot from the top of the key not only came before the second-quarter horn sounded, but banked in. From there, the team was able to increase its cushion.
The Carolina Day JV had beaten the Little Greenies, 50-32, just a week earlier at Carolina Day. In that game, Christ School struggled with turnovers caused by the Wildcats’ press. Coach Hyche and his coaching staff used their following practices to install a press break.
The last scheduled game of the season for the Little Greenies is Monday at Winston-Salem’s Summit School at 5:30 p.m.
