Mason Plumlee '09 Makes $20,000 Donation to Hurricane Helene Relief

Nine months later, every dollar and cent still counts in the Asheville area's continued recovery from Hurricane Helene.

Mason Plumlee '09 considers this a second home as he led Christ School to state basketball championships as a sophomore, junior, and senior. Mason put his money where his heart is Wednesday, making a donation of $20,000 to ReGroup Western North Carolina, an organization that formed after Helene to help restore homes, provide essential supplies, and support families as they rebuild their lives.

Mason presented the check to ReGroup WNC at the end of his third annual basketball camp, which has grown from 50 campers in 2023 to more than 130. His counselors for this year included Matt Cioce '13, Jo Ahart '25, William Robinson '26, Jayden White '26, Dee Giger '09, Daniel Helm '99, and Greenie assistant coach David Robinson with other current students and alumni involved in the day-to-day operation since Sunday.

Mason went on to star for Duke University after graduation and has been active in the NBA since 2013, having played this past season for the Phoenix Suns. It continues to be the longest professional basketball career for any WNC high school graduate and he is believed to be the only current NBA player who runs an overnight camp for youth.
