A gangly kid from Indiana and his family took a chance on Christ School.

Seventeen years later, Mason Plumlee ’09 has crafted the longest professional basketball career of any player to ever emanate from a Western North Carolina high school.

The Los Angeles Clippers announced Friday that they are re-signing the Greenie to a one-year contract, which means that the 2023-24 season will be Mason’s 11th in the league.

Mason, 33, split last season between Charlotte and L.A., averaging 7.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists at center. He achieved career highs for total points (857), rebounds (700) and field-goal percentage (68).

His status as a free agent was still up in the air when Mason returned to campus for last month’s Plumlee Basketball Camp. He has previously played for Portland, Denver, and Detroit after being selected by Brooklyn with the 22nd overall selection of the 2013 NBA draft.

“Mason made an immediate imprint last season with his playmaking, finishing, and feel for the game,” Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank said.

“He is a selfless, dependable teammate who consistently excels in his role. We are grateful to have him back.”
