CONCORD - Forest green never looked so fast until Rocky Hansen ‘23 wore it.
The 10-time state champion will speak Sunday at Christ School’s 123rd Commencement, but he's said it all when it comes to his legendary status in North Carolina track and field.
Rocky won four more titles at this weekend's NCISAA Division I state meet - three of which were meet records. His final race for Christ School was Saturday afternoon's school record in the 800-meter run (1:51.73) to finish out his career as a Greenie with 10 state championships.
Rocky was undefeated, 10-for-10, in every one of his NCISAA state meet races as a junior and a senior. He holds the all-time state record (private and public schools) in every distance from 1,000 to 5,000 meters.
He led from the opening gun in all three of his individual events Friday and Saturday – the only real drama was having to retake the lead from Charlotte Providence Day’s Landon Roemer with about 450 meters to go in the 1,600.
Four events are the maximum number allowed for every athlete at the state meet. To conserve energy, Rocky was measured with his effort up until the 800.
He ran the same distance Friday when the Greenies won the 3,200-meter relay (7:47.86), a group that also consisted of Dawson Reeves ’24, Kahzi Sealey ’23, and Luke Parrish ’24.
The Greenies (102 points) led after Day 1 of the meet at Cannon School but didn’t have the points in the sprints to match Charlotte Providence Day (151).
Dawson medaled twice in the individual 3,200 (second place, 9:07.22) and 1,600 (third, 4:16.01)
Virginia basketball recruit Anthony Robinson ’23 tied for the best height (6-4) to place second in the high jump. Calvin Williams ’24 was third in the shot put with a personal-record throw of 48-1.25.
