Rocky Hansen '23 to Run in NCAA Track Meet as a Freshman


WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Eugene, Oregon has been affectionately called “Track Town USA” and the University of Oregon’s color scheme (green and yellow) matches with Christ School. 

You wouldn’t expect anything less than the stars to align for the site of Rocky Hansen’s first NCAA Championship meet. 

Rocky will run the 5,000 meters Friday at 10:55 p.m. on ESPN2, a phenomenal achievement for a true college freshman.

“Freshman standout Hansen already holds the fifth-fastest 5000m time in program history following his performance at the Wake Forest Invitational on April 19 where he clocked a 13:44.16. In addition to the 5000m, he also excelled in the 1500m, notching second team All-ACC in the event last month. The men's 5000m final is scheduled for a 10:55 p.m. start Friday night on ESPN2.”

Rocky was a 10-time state champion as a Greenie and the first-ever boy in North Carolina high school track to break four minutes for the mile. 

He holds 10 school records for cross country or track, including all-time marks for North Carolina boys in the 1,500 meters (3:42.41), 1,600 meters (3:56.85), the mile (3:58.23), the indoor mile (4:00.84), 3,000 meters (8:05.13), 3,200 meters (8:32.46), the 2 mile (8:35.22), and 5,000 meters for cross country (14:20.90).
