Christ School varsity basketball can count on getting every opponent’s best shot this season.
The defending NCISAA 4-A state champions aren’t exactly shying away from competition either.
Third-year coach Josh Coley has laid out a difficult 32-game schedule for the Greenies which begins Tuesday at home against Gaston Christian. Christ School only plays in the Greenie Dome 10 times with a good chunk of the schedule made up of showcases and tournaments, including a return to the John Wall Holiday Invitational (formerly the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational).
Christ School won the John Wall Holiday Invitational in 2008 (ironically, defeating the tournament’s namesake and his Word of God team in the finals, 76-73).
The Greenies will rely heavily on the leadership of nine seniors – Lleyton Thomas-Johnson ’24, Cole Boyer ’24, Bryson Cokley ’24, Jamari Briggs ’24, Keenan Wilkins ’24, T.J. Hamilton ’24, Calvin Williams ’24, Bruce White ’24, and Jozohn Price ’24. Bryson, Jamari, and Keenan are returning starters and were all-conference selections in the Carolinas Athletic Association last season.
The Greenies (31-4) won a share of last year's CAA regular-season championship and got hot at the right time in the playoffs. Lleyton played through a wrist injury and one of the team's main defensive stoppers.
Newcomer Mikey Wilkins ’25 scored more than 1,100 points in two years at his former school, R-S Central, and is widely regarded as one of the state’s top prospects from the Class of 2025.
