September 11 Shows Power of Service Learning Program

How much good can one small school spread into the world in one day?

The students and faculty showed everyone on Christ School’s 14th annual Day of Service. Greenies volunteered at more than 30 sites around the Asheville community, work made even more meaningful by the fact that it fell on September 11.

Fletcher mayor Preston Blakely spoke in chapel about the importance of civic duty and there was time set aside in the afternoon for reflection.

Service learning is a year-long expectation of the boys and an extension of the school’s fourth pillar – the Dignity of Manual Labor. Each student is required to perform at least 15 hours of service per year.
