Truett Compton ’25 provided the bookends Tuesday as Christ School varsity soccer fought past homestanding Carolina Day, 3-2, in the final Carolinas Athletic Association game for both teams.
Truett scored the first, and more importantly, the last goal – a one-timer with 4:27 remaining that broke a 2-2 tie.
The Greenies (9-7, 5-3) never trailed, but struggled to put away the Wildcats (6-6-1, 3-5) despite having a man-up advantage for the entire second half. Carolina Day’s starting goalkeeper was assessed a red card to create the disparity.
Shortly after the ejection, Christ School pounced. Ethan Rose ’24 fed the ball to Truett, who rocketed a shot past the backup keeper from about 15 yards out at 28:11. Jackson Knoll ‘23 then served a ball that fellow junior Basti Guder ‘23 was able to head in with eight minutes to go until halftime.
Christ School JV 6, Carolina Day 2
Stonewall Strickland ‘26 has been a handful for defenses this season and was far too much for Carolina Day to withstand Tuesday.
The eighth-grade striker from Waynesville, N.C., found the back of the net four times – twice in each half. Noah Hunt ‘24 was the other goal-scorer for the Greenies (4-6), who also benefited from an own goal in their third straight win.
Coach Jameel Brenneman said that Collier Lilly ‘25 had another solid game anchoring the defense while Christ School got assists off long balls from goalkeeper Palo Miles ‘26 and defender Patterson Dew ’24.
Upon returning to campus, both the JV and varsity engaged in the Christ School tradition of ringing the Angelus bell to celebrate their sweep.
