Soccer Puts the Clamps on Previously Unbeaten Asheville Christian

SWANNANOA – Coach Guy Campbell ’00 feels entirely confident that the scoring will pick up for Christ School varsity soccer.

Right now, a little goes a very long way.

The Greenies shut out their fourth consecutive opponent Friday, but not just any opponent – their first opponent in the Carolinas Athletic Association, which happened to be previously unbeaten Asheville Christian Academy.

Davis Campbell ’28 settled a pass from Truett Compton ’25 and fired from about 25 yards out with 12:14 to go in the first half. The freshman’s first varsity goal was the only one on the afternoon even though the Greenies (5-1-0, 1-0) won just about every 50-50 ball and dominated possession.

The Lions (7-1-0, 0-1) had outscored opponents, 26-3, prior to Friday’s game.

“It was a great effort. (ACA) was probably better than our guys thought, and they had some chances in the first half,” Coach Campbell said.

“We got things fixed, and the guys did their job. Felix (Huebner ’26) had a big save for us early and did his job. They’re doing everything we’re asking them to do. The end product is not quite there yet, but Wells Edwards (’25) is going to score goals, Constantine Barlas (’26) is going to score goals. The fact that we haven’t scored a lot of goals and we’re still winning games just means there’s some big goals to come.”

Christ School’s next game is Tuesday at home against East Henderson – the JV begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.
