Senior Day is normally a cause for celebration.
Christ School varsity soccer made it extra special for Max Redic ‘20, Michael Mahoney ‘20, Aaron Chen ‘20, Kevin Masson ‘20, Connor Hall ‘20, Adam Keever ’20, and their families. There were smiles all around Tuesday after the Greenies took care of business and beat visiting Asheville Christian Academy, 5-0.
Max and Michael each made fives saves in the fifth shutout of the season for Christ School (9-2-0, 3-0-0). The senior goalkeepers were buoyed by an attack that needed less than a minute to announce its presence – freshman Ethan Rose ’23 scored against his former school just 57 seconds in.
From there, the Greenies expanded on their lead with goals off the feet of Adam, Michael, Agustin Marichal Leon ’21, and Jack Lee ’21. Setting up the goals with assists were Adam, Agustin, Ethan, Tyler Bell ’21, and Justus Borchardt ’21.
Coach Guy Campbell ’00 paid his 2019 team the ultimate compliment at halftime, when the Senior Day ceremony was held, by saying this group is playing as well as any in his decade of coaching.
First place in the Carolinas Athletic Association is on the line Thursday when the Greenies play their final regular-season home game at 4:30 p.m. Rabun Gap (Ga.) eased past Asheville School, 6-0, on Tuesday. The Eagles (10-2-0, 3-0-0) are the defending CAA champions and outscored Christ School, 6-2, in a pair of wins last year.
