Bending in a corner kick takes an elite level striker.
Constantine Barlas ’26 checks all the boxes these past three games for Christ School varsity soccer.
The junior from Asheville has found his scoring groove with four goals over that span after a hat trick (three goals) in Tuesday night’s rain-filled 5-2 home win over Asheville School.
“Tino” as he is known to teammates and coaches, struck twice in the first 16 minutes and the Greenies (8-2, 3-0) looked assured of staying in first place in the Carolinas Athletic Association. But being at the top means you get everyone’s best game, and the Blues (3-4 1-2) rocked Christ School back on its heels with two goals of their own to tie the game at halftime.
The Greenies regrouped in a big way.
Defender Clayton Butler ‘26 was close to 30 yards out when Constantine laid a ball out at his feet that Clayton banged home with 26:22 remaining. Team captain Truett Compton ’25 came through almost 20 minutes later and the corner kick from Constantine completed the scoring with 3:49 left. If the corner kick itself hadn’t gone in, Amaad Jordan ‘26 was in perfect position for the rebound.
Wyatt Campbell ‘27 distributed two assists and Felix Huebner ’26 made six saves.
Christ School will try to complete a perfect 4-0 run through the first half of the CAA when the Greenies play Friday on Carolina Day’s new artificial turf field – the JV game starts at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity.
