Christ School students decide who speaks each year at graduation and their choices for Sunday are a couple Greenie institutions.

Rocky Hansen ’23 from Hendersonville, N.C., will represent the Class of 2023, followed by the 2022-23 Teacher of the Year, Mike Mohney P’23.

Head of School Dr. Sean Jenkins revealed the selections Wednesday in Chapel, praising Rocky and Mr. Mohney for being more than beacons amongst their peers, but rather examples to every student and adult in the school community.

Rocky is the Day Student Prefect and ranks at the top of his class academically. And that’s before you even consider the career of the greatest high school distance runner in North Carolina history. He holds every N.C. record from 1,000 to 5,000 meters, is a six-time state champion, three-time national champion, and the first boy from North Carolina to run the mile in under four minutes (3:59.56). Rocky will run cross country and track in college for Wake Forest University.

Sunday was already going to be highly-emotional for Mr. Mohney, whose son, Chapin ’23, is among the Greenies who will walk across Yard A.

Mr. Mohney has taught at Christ School for 19 years. He has been a fixture in the Math Department and Outdoor Program, as well as a dorm parent.

Graduation is Sunday at 10:15 a.m.
