Guards make the world go around for Christ School.
Further confirmation is that three leaders of the backcourt have been picked for the March 2 N.C. Private School All-Star Basketball Game in Charlotte – Jamari Briggs ’24, Bryson Cokley ’24, and Keenan Wilkins ’24.
A fourth Greenie, Lleyton Thomas-Johnson ’24, was selected as well, but will be on a school trip over Spring Break.
“Just for us to have that kind of representation from western North Carolina, knowing the work that these boys put in, I think it’s second to none,” Christ School coach Josh Coley said.
“I told them all, these are memories that you will remember for the rest of your lives and tell your kids about. I’m very proud of them academically, I’m proud of them athletically, I’m just proud of them for who they are, their families, and how they represent themselves and Christ School.”
Jamari, Bryson, and Keenan have allowed the Greenies to win 55 games and two Carolinas Athletic Association championships the past two years. The team is back in Tuesday night's NCISAA 4-A semifinals, two wins away from a potential repeat as state champions.
Jamari is a 6-foot-5 senior from Hartsville, S.C., and committed to USC Upstate. He is averaging 9.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
Bryson is a 6-foot-5 senior from Charlotte and has committed to George Mason University. He is averaging 8.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
Keenan is an uncommitted 5-11 senior from Hendersonville, N.C. who averages 12.9 points, 3.4 assists, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. He has made a team-high 56 shots from three-point range.
The N.C. all-star games for boys and girls takes place annually at Charlotte Providence Day. Christ School’s players will be on the East boys team this year, which is being coached by SouthLake Christian’s Rodney Monroe. He was the 1991 ACC Player of the Year for N.C. State.
