Winners on the field, winners off it.
Continued excellence across the board for Christ School athletics is being reflected in recruiting. For the third time in five years, a senior class will include 20 or more boys who have committed or signed to play college sports.
Soccer player Max Hartwig ’23 has become the 20th Greenie from the Class of 2023 to commit. The defender from Charleston, S.C., will be staying in the mountains to play for Brevard College.
Max was one of four seniors for the Carolinas Athletic Association runner-up Greenies (11-10) last season.
“Max is one of the toughest defenders I have coached,” Christ School coach Guy Campbell ’00 said.
“He is no doubt the best tackler on our team this year. He blocks shots and has a willingness to put his body on the line to win the ball. Max’s path to college isn’t your traditional path, he didn’t get selected for any postseason awards but none of that kept Max from attaining his goal. What a great accomplishment for him. Max really improved this past spring and we could see the confidence building in him. We look forward to seeing Max continue to improve.”
Athletes from the Class of 2023 have until Aug. 1 to sign, and 2024 should be another special class for Christ School.
Basketball player Bryson Cokley ’24 has already committed to Wake Forest and three members of the Greenie football program, Cayden Jones ’24, Josh Harrison ’24, and Khalil Conley ’24, hold multiple scholarship offers. Josh and Ashton Parker ’24 were offered by Charlotte on Monday, giving Ashton his first offer.
Christ School offers 10 competitive sports in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association along with a robust Outdoor Program and the Robert Morgan '36 Aviation Program.
