Varsity Baseball Shuts Out Rabun Gap in Critical CAA Game

Johno Pierce '23 had the only base hit for Christ School on Wednesday.

Ethan Rose ’24 knew his responsibility when he came on in relief Wednesday night.

The sophomore did a lot more than finish what Mac Kimel ’22 started.

Ethan struck out five Rabun Gap (Ga.) batters in two innings, including a punchout to conclude a 2-0 home win that keeps the Greenies (7-9, 3-1) tied for first place in the Carolinas Athletic Association.

“We fought hard this game. Mac pitched his tail off and he put me in a great position to come in and close it out for the team. I was feeling it tonight,” Ethan said.

“Everybody is relaxed right now and gung ho.”

Mac was razor-sharp for his second start in eight days, allowing just four hits and a walk to go along with eight strikeouts in five innings. The senior struck out Eagle batters to end the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings.

The Greenies only had a single base hit, and it was leadoff Johno Pierce ’23 reaching on an infield single in the bottom of the first inning. The shortstop later came around to score on a wild pitch.

Jakob Iwanek ’24 got on the base in the bottom of the fifth inning with a walk and was able to put Christ School up 2-0 thanks to a Rabun Gap throwing error.

Wednesday was much different than the first meeting between the teams – a 13-3 win by the Eagles on March 29. More photos from Wednesday's game can be viewed at this link.

JV Greenies 7, Rabun Gap 6

JV Baseball rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Eagles.

Riley Shuler ’25 tied Wednesday's game with a two-run double, setting up Ben Reece ’25 for a walkoff single.

The next games for Greenie baseball are Saturday – a JV/Varsity doubleheader with visiting Knoxville (Tenn.) Catholic that begins at 2 p.m.
