With a new year on the horizon, Christ School varsity basketball has a fresh outlook for the rest of the 2019-20 season.
Winning eight of the last nine games will do that for a team.
The Greenies were shorthanded for half of the two-day Phenom Hoops Porter Gaud Holiday Classic in Charleston, S.C., but still managed to surge past Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach (S.C.), 79-46 on Friday and then Charleston’s First Baptist, 50-41 on Saturday.
Christ School improves its record to 8-8 and will not play again until January 10, 2020 at Carmel Christian.

Christ School football’s run to the NCISAA Division I state-championship game may have hindered the early-season development of Charlie Browder ’21. But the two-sport standout from Kingsport, Tenn., is looking well-acclimated to basketball now.
Charlie was named the Most Valuable Player of Friday’s tournament opener for the Greenies, scoring 11 of his 17 points in the first quarter. He was joined in double figures by Drew Redmond ’21 (13 points), DeAnte Green ’22 (12), and Ray Faison ’20 (11).
Christ School was in front, 49-25, at halftime and got the remainder of its points from Justice Ajogbor ’20 (eight), Jack Knott ’20 (six), Zack Myers ’23 (five), Adam Keever ’20 (four) and Ty Besses ’22 (three).

De’Ante has emerged as not only of the most sought-after sophomore recruits in North Carolina, but Christ School’s leading scorer at 14.6 points per game. The Greenies found a way to win without their injured star Saturday, getting an MVP performance from Justice (12 points, 15 rebounds) and more strong production from Drew (14 points).
Adam (eight points), Charlie (seven), Zack (six), and Ray (three) rounded out the scorers.
