Christ School players crashed the boards as they should have Friday. But the reality is a shot from just inside the free throw line by Emanuel Richards ’23 was good from the moment it left his hands.
Emanuel posted up his man, took an entry pass from Jamari Briggs ’24, and scored with 4.5 seconds to go in overtime. The Greenies (17-1), who had been playing catchup all afternoon long against Knoxville-Webb (Tenn.), surged late to win an Arby’s Classic consolation game, 63-61.
Christ School will play Madison-Ridgeland Academy (5-2) out of Mississippi in a fifth-place game Saturday. Tip-off is at 2:30 p.m.
The Greenies have already surpassed their wins total from all of last basketball season (16). They shook off their one and only loss Friday despite trailing Webb at the end of the first quarter, second quarter, and third quarter. The score was 59-59 at the end of regulation.
Statistical leaders for Christ School were Jamari (23 points, nine rebounds), Keenan Wilkins ’24 (19 points), Emanuel (nine points, four assists), Anthony Robinson ’23 (eight points, nine rebounds), Jo Ahart ’25 (two points), and Matthew Pethel ’23 (two points).
Jamari has scored 23 points in each of his past two games, which is nearly twice his scoring average of 12.2 points.
