The clock wasn’t stopping for anything late in the game Tuesday. Neither was Nate Wilberding ’25.

The sophomore from Fletcher, N.C., scored twice in the final 90 seconds, part of his career-high seven-goal game for the Greenies in their 16-1 rout of visiting Asheville School.

A running clock was used for the last 16 minutes, 18 seconds of the game in keeping with the NCISAA’s mercy rule for lacrosse.

Christ School (7-5) was ahead 8-0 at halftime and 12-0 at the end of the third quarter.

Nate had two of his goals at the midway point. Jack Shimer ’23 also had two, on his way to a hat trick at the 6:31 mark of the third quarter.

Other scoring leaders at the break were Parker Beiland ’24 (two goals), Bill Young ’23 (one), and Jack Staley ’23 (one).

It was a long-pole goal by Carter Martin ’25 in the third quarter that brought about the running clock.

The next game for Varsity Lacrosse is home Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Charlotte Country Day. It will be Senior Day for nine Greenies – Bill, Jack Shimer, Jack Staley, Tidiane Gakou ’23, Christian Hudson ’23, Steven Hernandez ’23, Aiden Schook ’23, Brighton Shook ’23, and JD Steven ’23.
