Varsity Soccer Stuns Nationally-Ranked Wesleyan Christian

WESLEAYN

Wells Edwards ’25 was mobbed by teammates and coaches as the elated striker ran to the nearest corner of the field at High Point Wesleyan Christian Academy.

Friday was a win for the ages. Many, many ages for Christ School varsity soccer. Wells was literally at the center of it all.

The sophomore from Greensboro, N.C., received a cross from Carter Compton ’24 in the heart of the penalty area. Not only was their collaboration a golden goal in overtime of a 1-0 win over the nationally-ranked Trojans, but a victory that Greenies (9-8) everywhere had been waiting for.

Coach Guy Campbell ’00 told the team afterwards that he had never beaten Wesleyan (16-2), either as a coach or player at Christ School.

Junior goalkeeper Ben Yang ’24 was named Man of the Match for the team’s seventh shutout of the season and fifth in the last six games. Wesleyan is ranked No. 30 in the country by MaxPreps. Friday night’s JV game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Christ School is back home Tuesday for a 6 p.m. Senior Night game against Carolina Day.
