Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Christ School
Christ School’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) is grounded in the school’s Episcopal identity and in its mission “to produce educated men of good character, prepared for both scholastic achievement in college and productive citizenship in adult society.” As an Episcopal school we are called to love our neighbor and to respect the dignity of every human being. We strive to promote a culture that, through dialogue and respect, advances the dignity and well-being of each person and nurtures a genuine sense of belonging. We seek to understand, appreciate, and bridge our differences by learning about and engaging with diverse perspectives on challenging topics that provide opportunities for personal growth while strengthening our community.
We work toward our DEIB goals in everything we do, but a number of student groups on campus work specifically to carry out DEIB work. The Black Student Union (BSU), Multicultural Student Union, The Bridge, and Alliance Group all provide an opportunity for students to get involved in our DEIB work and find a place where they're most comfortable to discuss issues and more.
Affinity Groups at Christ School
Black Student Union
Our Black Student Union (BSU) focuses on the unique experiences, celebrations, and concerns of Christ School’s Black students. Led by students and guided by faculty advisors, the group gathers weekly for fellowship, discussion, and mutual support, and participates in various outreach programs throughout the school year. BSU is open to everyone in the community who is interested in the group’s purpose.
Multicultural Club
The Multicultural Club welcomes all students and faculty for discussion and celebration of the diverse cultures represented at Christ School and the array of cultures around the world. The group explores current events, both on and off campus, and shares information with the school community in chapel services, assemblies, and special programs. Meeting monthly and on holidays celebrated by Greenies from other countries, this group enjoys meals at local restaurants that highlight international fare.
The Alliance
The Alliance welcomes all students and faculty for supportive discussion about important contemporary issues impacting the Christ School community, the United States, and the world. Founded by two students who recognized the need for open, respectful dialogue, this group is built around a foundation of honesty and empathy. Students and a faculty advisor select topics and design discussion prompts for the group’s monthly meetings.
The Bridge
The Bridge is a newly formed partnership (or “bridge”) between Christ School, Asheville School, Carolina Day School, and Asheville Christian Academy designed to gather students from each school’s affinity groups for meaningful connection and support. With events scheduled at each school throughout the year, all students are welcome at Bridge events.
