Mind you, it is only March. However, Christ School varsity lacrosse is already digging down for the championship-type grit and tenacity that coach Benjie Colberg hopes to see in the coming months.  

Christ School's baseball and lacrosse teams have two big things in common over Spring Break – undefeated records and a flair for the dramatic in their latest wins.

Last year it was snow. Friday it was rain. Christ School has proven to be an all-weather lacrosse team no matter how bad the conditions are for its home opener.

Face-offs are normally a gimme for Christ School lacrosse, all because of Lehigh University recruit Sean Dow ’21.

While that was not the case Tuesday night, Sean still won more (13) than he lost against Hough junior George Kalos, who has committed to North Carolina. The visiting Greenies were the superior team on the scoreboard as well, winning their season opener, 13-7. 

Physical ability is not a question mark with this year’s Christ School varsity lacrosse team.

It should come as no surprise that the Greenies are stacked once again. After all, they have set the standard for NCISAA Division I lacrosse with state championships in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Uncertainty over COVID-19 nixed their 2020 spring sports seasons. And five Christ School student-athletes probably never imagined that one day their college signing ceremony would include masks and limited capacity.

Sam Brie ’21 (St. Bonaventure University lacrosse), Sean Dow ’21 (Lehigh University lacrosse), Andrew Graham ’21, (University of North Carolina Greensboro golf), Andrew Grande ’21 (Rice University baseball), and Keese Zugehoer (Lindenwood University lacrosse) basked in the spotlight all the same Wednesday with their families watching on.

Three seniors from the Christ School lacrosse program are still raking in accolades, months after their final game as Greenies.

Attacker Davis Lindsey ’20, goalkeeper Beau Hecimovich ’20, and midfielder Jack Fitch ’20 were named to the HighSchoolOT.com West All-Senior Team on Monday.

Like most athletic events planned for this spring, the fourth annual Bull City All-Star Games – Cullen Classic has been cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nevertheless, organizers of the May 30 charity exhibition at Duke University still wanted to recognize the top-100 high school lacrosse players in North Carolina. Of the boys players who were chosen, three are from Christ School – goalkeeper Beau Hecimovich ’20, attacker Davis Lindsey ’20, and midfielder Jack Fitch ‘20.

Christ School is well-represented on the list of finalists for the 2020 Western North Carolina Sports Awards presented by Ingles.

Andrew Hammel ’20, Aydan White ’20, and Davis Lindsey ’20 are in the running for awards as are a pair of Greenie state-championship teams from 2019 – Lacrosse and Track & Field.

Today, the Christ School Athletic Department begins a week-long celebration of the Class of 2020’s spring sports athletes on our website and @greeniesports social media. Each day will be devoted to a different sport, with that coach reflecting on what the seniors meant to the program and the school.

For the second time in two weeks, Christ School varsity lacrosse has been ranked as one of the top teams in the Southeast United States.

The Greenies (4-0) went from unranked to No. 6 in the latest South Top 10 poll from U.S. Lacrosse Magazine. No. 3 Weddington is the only North Carolina team ranked higher.

Word travels fast, and now there is confirmation that Christ School varsity lacrosse has positioned itself as one of the top teams in the Southeast after just four games.

The Greenies (4-0) are ranked No. 7 in the Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse Regional Experts Poll which was released Wednesday.

Championships are a great indicator of success. So is the fact that roughly one out of every five boys at Christ School plays lacrosse.

Expectations are high for the 2020 varsity season, but that is nothing new for the three-time defending NCISAA Division I champions, who have appeared in the state finals the past four years.

Casual observers may think that Christ School lacrosse wins every faceoff. Actually it’s not far from the truth with Sean Dow ’21 handling those duties for the Greenies.

Change is a theme for Christ School lacrosse in 2020, and with that comes the inaugural Christ School Lacrosse Camp planned for June 23-27 on campus.

Registration is now open at https://www.christschool.org/christ-school-lacrosse-camp and spaces are expected to fill fast as the camp, formerly known as the Revolution Lacrosse Camp, has sold out 12 years in a row.

The Christ School community gathered Wednesday to celebrate seven student-athletes who will be carrying on their careers at the college level.

An Early-Signing Period event recognized the following seniors and their commitments – Justice Ajogbor ’20 (Harvard University basketball), Cameron Akers ’20 (College of Charleston golf), Jack Fitch ’20 (University of Vermont lacrosse), Beau Hecimovich ’20 (High Point University lacrosse), Davis Lindsey ’20 (Loyola University Maryland lacrosse), Kevin Masson ’20 (Rollins College lacrosse) and Steve Pappas (Mars Hill golf).

Christ School teams won a Carolinas Athletic Association conference championship in every spring sport, success that has been justly rewarded with the release of the Asheville Citizen-Times’ annual All-Western North Carolina teams.

Dorman High School in Spartanburg has nearly 2,600 students, but the sheer numbers didn't intimidate Christ School Lacrosse as JV led the evening off with a 6-6 tie.

Over spring break, Christ School lacrosse picked up four more wins to improve our record to 5-0. On the first Friday of break, the Greenies defeated Porter Gaud (2018 SC private School state champs) 15-4, followed by Oceanside Academy (2018 SC 3A Public state champs) 14-7 on Saturday.

The Greenies opened their season with a convincing 15-3 win over Greenville High (SC). On the offensive side of the ball, Jack Harrison '19 led the way with 4 goals and 3 assists, while Davis Lindsey '20 added 3 goals and 3 assists and Zack Grinde '19 added 2 goals, 2 assists, and 7 ground balls.
