Christ School junior Colin Breiter ’25 won the first event of the Western North Carolina High Disc Golf League in a sudden death playoff Wednesday. 

Colin threw a round of 4-under (50) at the private Avery's Spring Disc Golf Course in Arden, tying for the best score in the Varsity division. 

Red, white, and blue with a little green, too.

Emboldened by months of intense training, Walker Edens ’25 and Grey Edens ’25 gave it their all Saturday in the kayaking hotspot of Columbus, Georgia.  Walker qualified for the K1 junior men’s national team by placing third at the USA Freestyle Canoe/Kayak World Championships Team Trials. Grey will be the U.S. team’s first alternate by virtue of his fourth-place showing.

Hand-eye coordination is clearly not a struggle for Colin Breiter ’25.

The sophomore from Morganton, N.C., emerged as the overall champion of the Western North Carolina Disc Golf Association High School League’s fall season which ended Sunday on Christ School’s course.

"The Green Race" kind of sounds like an event tailor-made for a couple kayakers from Christ School, doesn't it?

Rainy weather did not hamper Saturday's performance by Chapin Mohney '23, who paddled to a third-place finish in the Juniors division (4:24.05), or Assistant Dean of Students/Outdoor Program coach Wesley Shelmire, who was sixth in the Men's division (4:19.83).

By attending Christ School, the two brothers are never far from hundreds of miles of natural whitewater. And their hometown of Charlotte is where the manmade rapids of the U.S. National Whitewater Center can be found.  

Climbers in the Christ School Outdoor Program get a sense of accomplishment and a strenuous workout, too. Competition is often the farthest thing from their minds.

Saturday was a break from the norm, allowing the boys to show what they have learned from practice in the school's new climbing room and off-campus climbs.

Readers of the Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine believe that Seth’s ability to find trout is well beyond his years, too, having nominated him for Fly-Fishing Guide of the Year in the publication’s 12th annual “Best of the Blue Ridge” year-end awards.

Byron Park ’24 and Ethan Park ‘23 shoot a bow for enjoyment and the thrill of competition. Byron (gold) and Ethan (silver) medalled in their divisions Saturday at the USA Archery N.C. State and Junior Olympic Archery Development Program Indoor Championships held in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Christ School senior Richard Lytle ’20 beat over half the field at Saturday’s 24^th annual Green Race, an event known in paddling circles as “the Super Bowl of Whitewater Kayaking.”

Richard ran the Class 5 rapids of the Green Narrows (situated about 20 miles from campus in Henderson and Polk counties) in 5 minutes, 6.50 seconds, good enough for 69^th place out of 145 boats. Richard is believed to be only the third Greenie – current students or alumni – to finish the Green Race.

Like an elevator, there are only ups and downs to the Bearwallow Challenge.
