Christ School varsity basketball has reached the 25-win mark for the first time since 2015 and only the 11th time in the program’s 100-year history. Next up for the Greenies (25-3) is a Winter Break trip to New Orleans for games Friday vs. Isidore Newman at 8 p.m. (EST), and Saturday vs. Jesuit at 1:30 (EST).

Ups and downs are to be expected with any season, but Christ School football gave the school community some unforgettable moments in 2022 while battling injuries and other attrition.

TIGER, Ga. – Bryson Cokley ’24 dribbled out the final 30 seconds by himself at midcourt Tuesday night. The nearest referee put his hands on his hips and watched the clock tick down as well.

Eighteen days, and on top of it a two-hour drive, was a long time to wait for some redemption. 

Rocky Hansen ’23 has an innate ability to tune out the noise on race days.

Times, rankings, and outside expectations are just inanimate things for others to concern themselves with as Rocky sticks to a dogged personal philosophy of “race hard, run hard.”

The words might sound simple, but the execution is not. And no one has done it better in state history than the Christ School senior.

When a legendary coach like Nick Saban wants you, it opens the door to a whole other level of recruiting.

That door opened this weekend for Cayden Jones ’24, who became the first Christ School football player to ever receive a scholarship offer from the University of Alabama.

Christ School swimmers were back in the pool Thursday at UNC Asheville, racking up more personal bests and state-qualifying times during a triple dual meet with Asheville Christian Academy and Rabun Gap (Ga.).

The Greenies won half of the meet’s 12 events.

Jamari Briggs ’24 made a break for the basket and Keenan Wilkins ’24, always astute, pushed ahead a bounce pass.

A windmill dunk sent the student section into a tizzy and occurred during a good stretch Tuesday for Christ School varsity basketball. There were some not-so good stretches, too, and the Greenies were taking it all in stride as they’re now as healthy as they’ve been in over a month.

Winners on the field, winners off it.

Continued excellence across the board for Christ School athletics is being reflected in recruiting. For the third time in five years, a senior class will include 20 or more boys who have committed or signed to play college sports.

WINSTON-SALEM – Christ School athletes won three events and Rocky Hansen ’23 ran his sixth state record Saturday at the JDL Fast Track Invitational.

The Greenies were up against a stacked field, as the JDL is considered North Carolina’s premier meet of the indoor season.

CHARLOTTE - Four games without Emanuel Richards ’23 was four too many.

The senior from Irmo, S.C., and Longwood University recruit was back in Christ School varsity basketball’s lineup Saturday for the first time in nearly three weeks. Emanuel’s presence was needed at both ends of the floor in another win with possible NCISAA 4-A state playoff implications – 62-60 at Charlotte Christian.

Capping off the night with a first-place swim in the 400-meter freestyle relay, Christ School won Friday’s five-team meet at Rabun Gap (Ga.).

Due to the length of the pool, events were scored at a short course distance in meters.

Long layoffs can be detrimental to any team.

Christ School swimmers clearly made the most of the two months since their last meet.

A total of 13 Greenies attained at least one personal record in Thursday afternoon’s Carolinas Athletic Association meet at Asheville School.

Christ School basketball teams went a perfect 4-for-4 in Tuesday's games, which was the first afternoon or evening in which the Greenies have ever played four times.

The Freshman and JV Greenies beat teams one division higher than them, doing it on the road no less.

Khalil Conley ’24 made some magic happen almost every time he touched the football for Christ School in 2022.

College coaches are seeing the same thing on film.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Opportunities to race the Distance Medley Relay against elite competition come along very rarely.

Christ School has never run it better than the Greenies did Friday afternoon at the Virginia Showcase indoor track meet.

Keenan Wilkins ’24 was twisting, turning, and falling to the court all at the same time Tuesday night.

It was poetry in motion, especially with the basketball softly trickling through the net. The Greenie Dome was deafening at times, but never louder than the aftermath of Keenan’s three-point play with 42.6 seconds to go.

SWANNANOA – Not much was going right for Christ School varsity basketball in a hostile environment Thursday night.

Except the score.

It's been a long road back for Jozohn Price '24.

The Christ School basketball program and school community in general is thankful that road led back to Arden.

Guy Campbell ’00 saw the opportunity to be an assistant coach with the Asheville City Soccer Club’s top-tier team as the ultimate in professional development.

Nothing about the 2022 season convinced him otherwise. And then five men’s players from Asheville City were selected in last month’s MLS SuperDraft. 

BRISTOL, Tennessee - Five games in five days, and the last was one of the best yet for Christ School varsity basketball.
