ASHEVILLE - Extraordinary circumstances call for an extraordinary result. 

Christ School tennis and Asheville School agreed to make up a winner-take-all match for the Carolinas Athletic Association championship on Tuesday. Even though neither can use it towards leverage for the state playoffs as they have already been eliminated.

Congratulations to 30 spring sports athletes who were named to all-conference teams in the Carolinas Athletic Association. 

Christ School tennis kept its conference championship hopes alive Monday afternoon, serving up Carolina Day’s first loss in the Carolinas Athletic Association, 5-4. 

The match was tied 3-3 after singles with the Greenies (6-5, 4-1) getting their wins from the bottom half of the order – Nick Banker ‘27, William Paschall ‘24, and Jack West ’25 at No, 4, 5, and 6, respectively. 

Before the coldest air blew through Friday, Christ School varsity tennis had a fourth consecutive win sewn up. 

The Greenies (4-2) remain undefeated in the month of April following a home match with the Asheville Trailblazers, which they won, 8-1. 

No one gets to eat cake before the birthday boy and Nick Banker ’27 earned it Wednesday. 

The freshman turned a year older with his third-set super tiebreaker at No. 4 singles part of an 8-1 home win by Christ School varsity tennis over Rabun Gap (Ga.). 

Winning another conference championship will require taking every opponent seriously. 

Christ School played some of its best tennis yet to win Thursday afternoon's Carolinas Athletic Association opener at Asheville Christian Academy, 8-1. 

Wednesday was a chance for the younger players to step up for Christ School varsity tennis. And step up they did.

The Greenies (1-2) blanked the visiting Asheville Trailblazers, 9-0, with no seniors in their singles lineup – Jani Erdi ’25, Norwood Bryan ‘26, Nick Banker ‘27, William Davis ‘27, Jack West ‘25, and Joseph Chen ’27. 

A new tradition served as the unofficial start to Christ School's 123rd Commencement Weekend on Thursday night.

Christ School varsity tennis extended its winning streak to six matches Wednesday and did so with ease.

Christ School tennis keeps finding ways to win at less than full strength. And as a result, the Greenies have found their way to the top of the Carolinas Athletic Association standings.

So far, so good for Christ School tennis in the Carolinas Athletic Association.

The Greenies took another potential step to their first conference championship since 2018 with Tuesday’s 9-0 home win over Asheville Christian Academy.  

RABUN GAP, Ga. – The bus ride through the mountains to Rabun Gap is never fun, but Christ School tennis made it a rewarding commute Tuesday.

Christ School tennis found that winning feeling Thursday for the second time this season at the expense of Charlotte Christian.

The rematch was a little more decisive. 

If there are varying degrees of “close,” then Thursday was about as close as a tennis match can get.

Christ School returned home victorious from Charlotte Christian, 5-4, after a season opener that was full of tiebreakers and other tense moments.

Christ School tennis crafted its best season in four years this spring, winning 10 matches and reaching the second round of the NCISAA state playoffs.  

It was a cause for celebration, and some ice cream.

Christ School tennis stayed in contention for at least a share of the Carolinas Athletic Association championship with Wednesday’s 7-2 win over visiting Rabun Gap (Ga.).

The Greenies (6-2, 3-1) swept doubles and got singles wins from Michael Drendel ‘23 (No. 1), Basti Guder ‘23 (No. 2), Cole Lewis ‘25 (No. 4), and Sam Ludington ‘23 (No. 6).

Michael Drendel ‘23 played some of his best tennis of the year Monday and his energy at No. 2 singles was infectious.  

Christ School also got wins from Xander Barber ’23 (No. 1), Basti Guder ‘23 (No. 4), and Cole Lewis ‘25 (No. 5) to beat Christ Church Episcopal (S.C.), 4-2.

Up and down the lineup, from singles to doubles, Christ School varsity tennis has yet to experience a letdown in the Carolinas Athletic Association.

The Greenies made quick work of Asheville Christian Academy on Wednesday, a day after they swept through Rabun Gap (Ga.) by the same score – 9-0.  

There is a lot of fight in this year’s Christ School varsity lacrosse team.

The Greenies (5-0) have fallen behind at some point in four of their five games this season. They are still undefeated for a reason. 

Tuesday was a flawless start to the season for Christ School varsity tennis.

The Greenies swept through singles and doubles to win 9-0 at Covenant Day.
