CULLOWHEE – Christ School athletes were some of their own best competition in the distance events and jumps Friday.

The Greenies scored big points in both areas and took first place in the 400-meter and 800-meter relays to win the Western North Carolina Kickoff Invitational.

The Greenies were up against a stacked field, as the JDL is considered North Carolina’s premier meet of the indoor season.

Christ School has never run it better than the Greenies did Friday afternoon at the Virginia Showcase indoor track meet.

Nearly one-fourth of Christ School’s Class of 2023 was seated at a long row of tables Monday morning with college paraphernalia spread all around.

An extraordinary year for Greenie athletics called for the vast space of Mebane Field House to hold a special all-school Assembly.

Even by his standards, this week has been a victory lap of epic proportions for Rocky Hansen ’23.

The five-time state champion and three-time national champion from Hendersonville, N.C., was named the Gatorade North Carolina Boys Track & Field Player of the Year on Wednesday. Two days earlier, NCRunners.com made Rocky its overall MVP for the 2022-23 school year.

Scheduling conflicts and other logistics would make it hard, if not impossible to get every boys track team in North Carolina together at the same place at the same time. 

But in this hypothetical, Christ School would be the winner of a statewide “super meet” between all private and public schools, according to the staff at HighSchoolOT.com. 

Philadelphia, there’s a new Rocky in town.

Christ School rising senior Rocky Hansen ’23 became a national champion for the third time and set another state record Friday night at the University of Pennsylvania.

Unprecedented times call for unprecedented rewards.

The Asheville Citizen-Times recognized Rocky Hansen ’23 and Christ School coach Randy Ashley as the best athlete-coach tandem in Western North Carolina cross country for last fall’s state-championship season.

And on Tuesday it was announced that Rocky and Coach Ashley have pulled off a rare double with the newspaper naming them Athlete of the Year and Coach of the Year for track & field, too.

Rocky Hansen ’23 is now in some rarefied air for North Carolina high school track.

The state’s all-time fastest mile belongs to a Greenie as of Saturday night, and a simple crunching of the numbers shows just how impressive Rocky was at the RunningLane Track Championships in Huntsville, Ala.

While outmanned in some events, Christ School track still made things interesting until the very end of the NCISAA Division I state meet in Raleigh.  

Seniors from the Class of 2022 are only five days away from becoming alumni of Christ School.

But first, Jackson Burch ’22, Jacob Halfacre ’22, Sam White ’22, and Trey Wagner ’22 had a big item to mark off their graduation week checklist.

Christ School track was twice as strong as any other boys team in Wednesday’s Carolinas Athletic Association Championship Meet.

Exactly twice as strong. 

Christ School track athletes made plenty of beautiful music Wednesday, which was the swan song for six Greenies.

Tobenna Okoli ’22, A.J. Jacobs ’22, Jake Regan ’22, Jackson Burch ’22, Jack Cross ’22, and Matthew Luke ’22 were not only the honorees on Senior Day but contributed to a winning effort in their final home meet.

Christ School track hosted its first meet of the season Wednesday, aided by the new lights which allowed events to stretch into the evening.

The Greenies easily won the boys meet with 228 points, more than twice as many points as any of the other seven teams.
