Combine the sheer expanse of Christ School's 500-acre campus, the quality of facilities, as well as Asheville's drawing power, and summer camps have returned in a big way. 

The Christ School Athletic Department is pleased to announce its Spring Sports Team Awards, as decided by the coaches.

No sports season suffered more from the COVID-19 pandemic than the spring, with entire seasons wiped out in 2020.

Christ School’s return to play over the past several months was full of successes, and some of the athletes behind those highlights have been named to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association’s all-state teams.

Three senior leaders for Christ School baseball have received all-conference honors on the All-Carolinas Athletic Association team.

Andrew Grande ’21 and Charlie Bell ’21 made up the middle infield for the Greenies at shortstop and second base, respectively. Mickey Meguiar ’21 alternated between the outfield and pitching.

Collin Schott ‘22 outscored Asheville School by himself Monday and had plenty of help in the first win of the season for Christ School JV Lacrosse.

Christ School varsity baseball players have been road warriors throughout an 8-0 start to the season. The Greenies have had no other choice. 

March has been some kind of month for Christ School varsity baseball and Mickey Meguiar ’21.

The Greenies are 7-0 overall and averaging 13.3 runs per game, thanks in no small part to their cleanup hitter.

Baseball has returned to Christ School with a bang.

The JV team had a lot to live up to Tuesday, hosting the first on-campus baseball game in nearly two years. And the Greenies gave the home fans what they wanted and more, with all nine starters scoring at least one run in a 18-3 rout of the Greenville (S.C.) Hurricanes.

Michael Posse ’22 was mowing down everyone in sight Thursday. He was just as unforgiving when it became his turn to hit.

Michael struck out nine Cannon School batters in four innings before giving way to Christ School’s bullpen, and the junior’s bases-loaded triple in the seventh helped seal a 9-3 road win.

Garrett Clapsaddle ’21 made it his goal to play college baseball, with the added bonus of doing it for a service academy.

The Christ School senior checked both boxes Monday by verbally committing to the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Uncertainty over COVID-19 nixed their 2020 spring sports seasons. And five Christ School student-athletes probably never imagined that one day their college signing ceremony would include masks and limited capacity.

Chad Treadway ‘19 acclimated to college baseball quicker than most young pitchers and was moving up the chain at Georgia State University.

The Christ School alumnus had gone from the bullpen to a weekend starter prior to the Panthers’ season being ended abruptly by the COVID-19 pandemic in March. Treadway showed enough in 16.1 innings of work to be named to the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American team.

Today, the Christ School Athletic Department concludes a week-long celebration of the Class of 2020’s spring sports athletes on our website and @greeniesports social media. Each day this week was devoted to a different sport, with that coach reflecting on what the seniors meant to the program and the school.

How many baseball teams have a catcher capable of hitting an inside-the-park home run?

Christ School does.

Up and down the lineup, Christ School varsity baseball couldn’t have hit the ball much better Monday in its start to the Florida League High School Invitational. Eight different Greenies managed hits in a 17-2 win over the Ace of Spades Sports (Fla.) team that lasted only 3 1/2 innings.

The U.S. Marine Corps is always on the lookout for well-rounded individuals with high character and conviction. The same can be said for the Marines’ Semper Fidelis All-American Program.

Out of thousands of nominations and applications, only 13 high school students from North Carolina were named All-American finalists, including a junior from Christ School.
