CHARLOTTE - Christ School cross country sized up some of its stiffest competition for a possible three-peat Tuesday, less than a month out from the NCISAA 4-A state meet.

The Greenies have something positive to build on, from a team and individual perspective.

For the third time in two weeks, a Christ School junior has committed to play college lacrosse.

Congratulations to faceoff specialist Carter Sherwood ’25 on his commitment to Loyola University Maryland, which he announced Tuesday night on his Instagram.

Based off this year's give-and-take, changing the date of "The Game" does not appear to have softened the intensity of the Carolinas’ oldest high school football rivalry. Nor has it affected the current balance of power which remains steadfastly green. 

Saturday was the first time in modern history that Christ School and Asheville School have played in September. On the road, the previously winless Greenies scored 20 unanswered points, including 13 in the second half, to defeat the Blues for the 12th consecutive year, 20-7.

No matter what the records say, having No. 7 healthy gives Christ School a world of confidence for Saturday’s game at Asheville School.

As it should.

SWANNANOA - Sprawling out Tuesday night, Felix Huebner ‘26 stretched his legs to deflect an Asheville Christian Academy shot.

Christ School varsity soccer and its dynamic goalkeeper served notice that the second half of Carolinas Athletic Association play might look much different than the first with a 2-0 road win.

It’s the ultimate double play for Pat James.                       

Already part of the Christ School Athletic Hall of Fame, Pat was recently added to the N.C. Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Congratulations to junior Xander Ring ’25 on his verbal commitment to play lacrosse for Brown University!

Xander is an all-conference defender from Tega Cay, S.C., and the sixth Christ School student-athlete since 2020 to make a commitment to an Ivy League school.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - That didn’t take long.

Rocky Hansen ’23 was the top finisher for Wake Forest cross country in his first college meet Saturday, coming in fifth overall (23:30.90) at the Virginia College and Open Invitational.

Aydan White ’20 made his seventh career interception for N.C. State in Friday night’s game nationally televised by ESPN. The fourth-quarter turnover with 5:39 remaining prevented a touchdown and helped the Wolfpack win at Virginia, 24-21.

This is the year for Dawson Reeves ’24.

The senior from Canton, N.C., has solidified it by announcing his verbal commitment to run cross country and track for Duke University.

The Christ School Athletic Department will hold three Senior Night ceremonies for Fall Sports athletes next month.

CHARLOTTE - Extra time is starting to become a comfort zone for Christ School varsity soccer.

For the fourth time this season, the Greenies were pushed beyond the standard 80 minutes of regulation on Tuesday. And for the third time, they came out victorious.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Saturday was an encouraging start to the season for Christ School’s top runners at the Eye-Opener Cross Country Festival.

The Greenies (241 points) placed third out of 38 teams in the International Boys race behind two South Carolina schools – Greer Middle College Charter (129) and Fort Mill (191).

Somewhere in the commotion, Jimmy Mennell ’24 was handed a Christ School flag on Friday night.

No one deserved to wave it more.

Saturdays will be greener than ever this college football season.

Twenty-one alumni from Christ School are active at the next level, almost enough for a complete offense and defense.

Two-time defending state champion Christ School won Tuesday’s Brevard 2-Mile scrimmage cross country meet as a team, with seniors Dawson Reeves ’24 and Eyob Gill ’24 going 1-2 individually.

Christ School varsity football’s schedule for 2023 is highlighted by opponents from four different states and both reigning NCISAA state champions: Charlotte Providence Day (Division I) and Asheville School (Division II).  

Following the dramatic tension of Wednesday’s overtime win and a two-hour bus ride home, Christ School varsity soccer players got back to work early the next morning.

The team's preseason commitment and experience are showing through two games.

MATTHEWS, N.C. - Self-sacrifice, or simply put, “we before me,” will be the motto for Christ School varsity soccer this season.

No one embodied it more than Collier Lilly ‘25 on Wednesday.

Greenville (S.C.) County Schools needed a 16th team for this weekend’s preseason jamboree and Christ School football was all too happy to answer the call.
