Four basketball teams are the most the Christ School Athletic Department has ever offered. The motivation is to not only grow the program but offer boys more opportunity for playing time at their appropriate skill level.

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Make no mistake, the Greenie Dome offers a homecourt advantage like no other.

But it hasn’t been all bad for Christ School varsity basketball to play five consecutive games on the road or neutral floors.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Christ School players and coaches have openly talked about their aspirations to be one of the last basketball teams standing in the NCISAA 4-A state playoffs.

Games like Saturday make that path look entirely negotiable. 

Eleven days is the longest break between games that Christ School varsity basketball will have all season long.

The Greenies were largely unfazed by the extended time off Wednesday in High Point.

CHARLOTTE - Some teams are an enigma. It could take a coaching staff an entire season to figure what makes their players tick.  

Fortunately, Christ School varsity basketball is not one of those teams.

Full-court pressure and shooting range are a potent combination.

Christ School varsity basketball’s defense made life uncomfortable for Covenant Day from the second the ball was inbounded Friday night. Turnovers and long rebounds led to plenty of open looks when possession changed. 

Given his potential, Thomas Vickery ’27 will alternate between Christ School’s Middle School and JV Basketball teams this season. It’s too bad for IC Imagine that there wasn’t a scheduling conflict Wednesday night.

Restraint was the name of the game Tuesday.

Christ School varsity basketball stormed out to a 28-0 lead in the first 7 minutes and 30 seconds, then purposely dialed everything back.

The Greenies subbed freely and passed up all fastbreak opportunities once the game got out of hand. With the integration of some players from football, a 61-17 home win over Hickory’s University Christian came at perhaps the perfect time on the schedule.

Justice Ajogbor ’20 couldn’t shake the smile from his face if he tried, an exhilaration that lasted all weekend long. 

Christ School students, faculty, and alumni turned out to make the big man feel right at home throughout the Asheville Championship basketball tournament.

CHARLOTTE - Keenan Wilkins ’24 is getting more comfortable running the point for Christ School.

Whether it was facilitating for teammates or providing the offense himself, the junior's instincts were keen Saturday against Raleigh's Grace Christian. Keenan led three Greenies in double figures with 19 points. Jamari Briggs ’24 was close behind with 17 points, and Anthony Robinson ’23 added 13 points in a 68-55 win, his first game since officially signing with the University of South Florida.

Josh Coley was not interested in nitpicking a 28-point win Tuesday night.

The coach firmly believes that Christ School varsity basketball can and will improve on the effort – a 70-42 home game with Charlotte's Victory Christian. Nine different Greenies scored in their 2022-23 season opener, led by double figures from Jamari Briggs ’24 (13 points), Emanuel Richards ’23 (11), and Keenan Wilkins ’24 (10).

It has hardly been a boring offseason for Greenie basketball.

College programs from far and wide have shown great attention to the Big 3 of Anthony Robinson ’23, Emanuel Richards ’23, and Bryson Cokley ’24 since their last game for Christ School.

Each of the players found their best fit.

Anthony Robinson ’23 has been working his fingers furiously this summer.

By the time he has posted appreciation for his latest scholarship offer to social media, another has come in.  

John Fulkerson ’16 may be a folk hero around Knoxville.

But he will always be fondly known as “Sticks” to those who crossed paths with the affable forward from 2014 to 2016.

However you remember him, John’s basketball days are far from done.

MaxPreps.com has compiled a list of the top-10 high school basketball teams from North Carolina since 2000 and Christ School had not one, but two state-championship squads make the cut.

John Fulkerson ’16 has lived out his dreams at the University of Tennessee, so much so that his reality became preferrable some time ago.

Christ School basketball and swimming ended their seasons on a high note last month. 

While it took a team effort in both sports, the Athletic Department is pleased to announce its individual awards for Winter Sports. These winners were determined by the coaches and will have their names added to plaques hanging in the Beaver Student Center.  

Christ School is back to being Elite in the NCISAA basketball playoffs.

The Greenies have reached at least the quarterfinal round of the postseason, or the “Elite Eight,” 19 out of the past 20 years.

Christ School’s homecourt advantage is not something to be taken for granted, especially when the timeframe is postseason basketball.

The 2021-22 season has been a return to form in many ways for the Greenies (14-10). Namely, the team has already won 11 more games than it did last winter, led by the all-conference play of Emanuel Richards ’23 (18.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.1 steals per game) and Anthony Robinson ’23 (9.5 ppg. and 9.4 rpg.).

Christ School basketball waited a long time to make the shortest road trip in the Carolinas Athletic Association.

Wednesday was worth it.
