Connor Hall ’20 has returned to the pitch, and it is almost like he never left.

Some might say the Asheville City Soccer Club’s arrival in 2016 was long overdue, given western North Carolina’s fascination with the beautiful game. This summer alone, the men’s and women’s teams have played to sold-out home crowds.

Where does Christ School fit into the mix? The school’s profile as a community partner to Asheville City has never been higher than it is in 2021.

Carson Campbell ’21 was charged with taking over as Christ School soccer’s primary scoring threat this fall, and the senior responded with the first all-state season of his career.

Regardless of what the brackets said, Carson Campbell ’21 and Christ School varsity soccer were no underdogs for the first round of the NCISAA 4-A state playoffs.

Senior Night is something no Greenie will ever take for granted again, at least in the short term.

High school athletic events all over the United States came to a standstill in March for the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognition for many seniors from the Class of 2020 had to be done virtually.

Christ School has successfully resumed sports since August, and Wednesday was a chance to celebrate the soccer careers of Mitch Donahoo ’21, Tyler Bell ’21, Charlie Bell ’21, Carson Campbell ’21, Ollie Searle ’21, Luke Rheney ’21, Grant Haldeman ’21, Sam Brie ’21, Billy Thackston ’21, and ASSIST student Daniel Potapov ’22. 

Every day on the practice field and certainly in spurts throughout games, Christ School coach Guy Campbell ‘00 sees growth and improvement.

More importantly, he sees a varsity soccer team that has not bailed out on the season.

Varsity soccer broke through in a big way Friday afternoon.

One of our captains, Carson Campbell ’21, had a goal and two assists in the Greenies’ 4-0 shutout at Asheville Christian Academy.

Thursday afternoon was akin to Christmas morning for Christ School soccer players and coaches.

The Green-White preseason scrimmage represented the first athletic event of any kind for the school since March.

Even as Christ School turns the page to a new year, athletes and coaches are receiving more postseason accolades for their work in 2019.

The Asheville Citizen-Times has published its All-Western North Carolina fall sports teams with honors going to nine different Greenies in cross country, football, or soccer.  

Christ School athletics has announced its annual end-of-season awards for the fall sports season. Each winner will have his name added to plaques which hang in the Beaver Student Center.

Christ School fall sports athletes achieved at a high, and at times unprecedented level in recent months. Now it is being reflected with postseason awards.

Beating the same opponent four times in one season is not easy.

Christ School varsity soccer hopes the odds are finally stacked in its favor Tuesday when the Greenies (10-7-0) get another crack at Carolinas Athletic Association champion Rabun Gap (16-2-0). The Eagles host the first round NCISAA 4-A state playoff game at 4:30 p.m.

The situation and the stakes are simple: One game, winner-take-all.

Varsity soccer earned the right to play for the Carolinas Athletic Association championship by placing second in the regular-season standings – Christ School (9-5-0, 3-3-0) travels to Rabun Gap (14-2-0, 6-0-0) for a 4:30 p.m. CAA title game on Thursday.

Having already surpassed last year’s total for wins by two games, Christ School varsity soccer is now ready to hit the homestretch of its season.

Senior Day is normally a cause for celebration.

Christ School varsity soccer made it extra special for ‪Max Redic ‘20, Michael Mahoney ‘20, Aaron Chen ‘20, Kevin Masson ‘20, Connor Hall ‘20, Adam Keever ’20, and their families. There were smiles all around Tuesday after the Greenies took care of business and beat visiting Asheville Christian Academy, 5-0.

Christ School varsity soccer’s fourth shutout of the season was the sweetest one so far.

Given the heat, keeping everyone fresh with a new-look starting lineup and plenty of substitutions was a luxury for Christ School varsity soccer on Tuesday.

After a week between games, Christ School soccer flexed its scoring muscles Saturday in Matthews, N.C.

Staring down a 3-1 halftime deficit, the afternoon looked like it was going one way for Christ School varsity soccer.

The Greenies cleaned up a few mistakes and kept pressing forward Saturday until they overtook Cannon School, 4-3.

Varsity soccer got back on track Thursday afternoon with its third shutout of the year.

Fox Smith ‘21 and Luke Rheney ’21 scored goals off a pair of assists from a third junior, Carson Campbell ’21, and Christ School took a 2-0 win at Legacy Early College in Greenville, S.C.
