Christ School has touched a lot of different corners of ACC basketball for nearly 20 years.

Virginia is a first.

Parties to celebrate Greenie state championships are becoming a common occurrence at Boxwood House and the Jenkins family looks forward to hosting many more in the years to come!

Mason Plumlee '09 has announced on his personal website that he is giving back to Christ School with the creation of this summer’s Plumlee Basketball Camp. The camp will be June 26-28 in the Greenie Dome – the site of many triumphs by Mason as well as his brothers Miles ’08 and Marshall ’11 – and is open to boys ages 11-18.

A state championship season speaks for itself. Until the awards say it even louder.

It’s not where you start but where you finish. The old adage is often applied to team rankings and it rings true for Christ School basketball.

The Greenies’ first state championship season in 11 years is being rewarded with a steady climb in the MaxPreps XCellent national rankings. They moved up five spots to No. 32 in this week’s list, which was updated Monday.

Christ School’s four-guard starting lineup had more than enough size and muscle.

Most of all, Anthony Robinson ’23 and Emanuel Richards ’23 gave the NCISAA 4-A state champions unwavering leadership.

LEWISVILLE - Emanuel Richards ’23 clapped his hands to demand the inbounds pass, dribbled once, and then slung the basketball with all his might.

With that, the celebration was officially on as Christ School students poured out of the bleachers.  

The coincidences are piling up as Christ School marches on in the NCISAA 4-A state basketball playoffs. The Greenies (30-4) can truly become a team of destiny Saturday when they play Carmel Christian (28-3) for a state championship at 7 p.m. at Forsyth Country Day.

Christ School coach Josh Coley is biased to a degree. But he has also been inside a lot of gyms and knows what Mebane Fieldhouse is like when the decibel levels start to rise. 

Jamari Briggs ’24 still had plenty of bounce in his step as he looked for family and friends after Saturday night’s game in the Greenie Dome.

“It was amazing. We came into this game locked-in,” Jamari said.

“The practices leading up to this game were intense. We knew we were ready.”

The Christ School Athletic Department is proud to announce its All-Academic Team for the 2022-23 Winter Sports season.

What kind of season has it been for Christ School basketball?

All five starters have been named to the all-conference team for the Carolinas Athletic Association, the best representation the Greenies have seen in 14 years.

Christ School (28-4) has received the No. 2 seed for the NCISAA 4-A state basketball playoffs and has a double bye through to the quarterfinals.

The first game for the Greenies will be Feb. 18 at home against one of three teams – No. 7 Charlotte Country Day (19-12), unseeded High Point Wesleyan Christian (9-17), or unseeded Charlotte Christian (9-18). The game time has not yet been determined.

Still going strong after a decade in the NBA, Mason Plumlee ’09 is on the move again. 

Christ School was delighted to have Mason only two hours away, and his postgame talks to the boys had been a highlight of Student Activities trips to Charlotte. Best of all, he was thriving with the Hornets, who traded the Greenie on Thursday to the Los Angeles Clippers for Reggie Jackson, a 2028 second-round draft pick, and cash considerations.

The program’s first conference championship in three years is a pretty big domino. 

NEW ORLEANS – The Big Easy was anything but for Christ School varsity basketball.

The Greenies (26-4) were in jeopardy of having all their recent momentum stunted by a Winter Break trip, until turning it on in the fourth quarter Saturday.

Jamari Briggs ’24 had 10 of his 15 points over the final eight minutes and Christ School outscored Jesuit (La.), 20-10, to win by a 58-53 score.

From humble beginnings came one of the greatest basketball programs in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association.

This is the 100th year of Christ School basketball, which played its first season in the winter months of 1922 and 1923. 

Christ School varsity basketball has reached the 25-win mark for the first time since 2015 and only the 11th time in the program’s 100-year history. Next up for the Greenies (25-3) is a Winter Break trip to New Orleans for games Friday vs. Isidore Newman at 8 p.m. (EST), and Saturday vs. Jesuit at 1:30 (EST).

TIGER, Ga. – Bryson Cokley ’24 dribbled out the final 30 seconds by himself at midcourt Tuesday night. The nearest referee put his hands on his hips and watched the clock tick down as well.

Eighteen days, and on top of it a two-hour drive, was a long time to wait for some redemption. 

Jamari Briggs ’24 made a break for the basket and Keenan Wilkins ’24, always astute, pushed ahead a bounce pass.

A windmill dunk sent the student section into a tizzy and occurred during a good stretch Tuesday for Christ School varsity basketball. There were some not-so good stretches, too, and the Greenies were taking it all in stride as they’re now as healthy as they’ve been in over a month.
