ASHEVILLE - Jamal Hutchison ‘23 repeated himself Thursday, winning the Skyview Open amateur championship for the second year in a row. 

Jamal had a chip-in on the 54th and final hole to finish it out with his father, Robert P’23, looking on.

Christ School golf added to the longest active conference championship streak by any Greenie sports team Thursday, winning the Carolinas Athletic Association Tournament at Springdale Golf Resort.  

MILL SPRING, N.C. - Freshman Levi Ellison ’27 was the individual medalist Thursday (73) and Christ School golf easily beat out three other Carolinas Athletic Association teams in a match at Bright’s Creek Golf Course.

The color choice worked like a charm for Christ School senior Taylor Kuehn ’23, too, as he repped his future college and bested a field of more than 100 other junior players to win the Carolinas Golf Association’s two-day Carolinas Collegiate Showcase.

Hampton Haney ‘12 proudly stood next to a practice green at the Waynesville (N.C.) Inn and Golf Club last week, explaining that the putting surface is made of the finest bentgrass on the market.

“This is a special place. I took my first steps here and I’ve played here all my life,” Hampton said.

“It’s like everything has come full circle.”

Dating back to 1960, the Skyview Open is the oldest and most culturally significant golf tournament in western North Carolina.

Jamal Hutchison ’23 will forever be a part of its history.

Christ School golf punched its ticket to next week’s NCISAA 4-A state tournament by virtue of the team’s play in a Monday qualifier at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
